Campus

We are proud of our campus! It is situated close to the center of Ústí nad Labem town, contributing to the regeneration and revitalization of an area of almost 90,000 square meters that used to be a town hospital between the late 19th century and the late 1990s. Close to the campus are further university faculties, research and educational facilities, and student halls. The only faculty situated outside of the broader campus area is the Faculty of Health Studies, which is based directly in the Masaryk hospital in order to allow students practical training.

The Campus is now a unique combination of historical architecture that has been renovated since the 2000s (most notably the Faculty of Arts) and modern multifunctional buildings (Centre for Natural Sciences and Technologies, for example) resulting from design competitions and built in the last decade. A key factor underlying the significance of the Campus and its surroundings is their interconnectedness with the town. Campus premises invariably play a major role in the fields of science, research, and innovation, generating spin-offs and creative thinkers who are eager to use modern technologies as well as socially and environmentally sensitive approaches to ensure a just and sustainable future.

We are also actively involved in sustainable projects that contribute to the transformation of the region and strengthen the social responsibility of the institution. One of the key projects is RUR – Region to University, University to Region, which aims to set up sustainable mechanisms leading to systemic change in the Ústí nad Labem region. The project focuses on excellent research, knowledge transfer and strengthening creativity, thus contributing to improving the quality of education, decision-making and life of the region’s inhabitants. UJEP also regularly participates in the European Week for Sustainable Development, during which it presents its activities and projects aimed at promoting sustainable development. In doing so, the University not only raises awareness of the importance of sustainability, but also inspires other institutions and individuals to actively engage in these initiatives.

But a number of employees, students, and visitors also contribute significantly to a vibrant cultural and social life in the town. This also includes events organised on the Campus, such as university festivals of popular science, concerts held in the central square, a summer with movies held in the amphitheater, a sporting day held mainly in the multifunctional sporting hall, invited lectures, and cultural days in the university library.

All visitors may also enjoy cafés, a bookshop, contemplate in a university chapel, or find a quiet place in the campus park greenery. Just ten minutes walk from the Campus, you may find the House of Arts, a new university facility focusing on exhibitions, lectures, and other cultural events presenting contemporary art and design. For lovers of nature, our Botanical park and greenhouses with tropical and subtropical plants present a good place to spend a few hours.
